Júzcar

Nestled in the Serranía de Ronda Júzcar, despite its small size, it was known internationally for tourism thanks to the fact that in 2011 it was chosen by the multinational Sony for the world premiere of the film The Smurfs 3D, from that moment on it was catapulted to be one of the most visited towns in Andalusia receiving tourists from almost all parts of the world.

After a local referendum, this small white town became the first Smurf town in the world after painting all 175 houses, the town hall and even the local cemetery blue.

Juzcar’s idyll with the Smurfs ended in 2017 after failing to reach an agreement with the family that owns the copyrights of the famous characters, after which she was forced to withdraw the terminology referring to the Smurfs and became known as the blue village. There are still memories of this time in the town such as the graffiti route and the adventure route with jumps, zip lines and bouldering designed for the enjoyment of the little ones.

Traditionally, Júzcar was of great importance in the area thanks to the installation, in 1727, of the first tin factory in Spain: the Royal Tin Factory of San Miguel, which at its peak of splendor had more than 200 employees. Unfortunately, at the end of the 18th century, due to strong competition from the north of the country, the factory went bankrupt and left all the facilities completely abandoned.

Years later, in 2002, restoration work began on all the facilities that housed the factory, this project won an award in 2018 for Intervention in the territory or in the Landscape.

In addition, Júzcar has great charm for hiking lovers as it offers a multitude of hiking routes with a particular charm in a unique environment, among them we highlight the Ruta de los Riscos (circular, 5 km, 2h45min), Ruta de Los Molinos (circular , 1.3 km, 45 min), the El Barranco de la Sima del Diablo route (circular, 1.1 km, 45 min), the Barranco de los Majales route (circular, 2 km, 1h) and the from the Tin Factory (2.5 km, 3h).
