Estepona

Located on the western Costa del Sol, Estepona is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Andalusia, and has been gaining importance in recent years thanks to its great development and the many urban improvements carried out in the historic centre of the town. Throughout its history, Estepona has been linked to its status as a coastal town, the scene of naval battles due to its proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar. Along the coast, the Romans inhabited what is now Estepona, and from the Middle Ages it was a borderland between taifas and kingdoms. The name Estepona comes from the Arabic Estebbuna.
