The lands of Algatocín stretch from east to west on the slopes of the mountain range that separates the rivers Genal and Guadiaro. Its peculiar urban structure, a legacy of the Berber villages that gave birth to the town, is staggered, adapting to the steep terrain, giving the white brushstroke of its houses on the green of chestnut trees, holm oaks and cork oaks.
Its steep, narrow and winding streets; eighteenth-century houses with their porticoed façades and heraldic coats of arms. The church of Our Lady of the Rosary, crowned by a brilliant blue mosaic cap, rises above the village as a sign of its identity.
Its natural surroundings are ideal for excursions along the various routes that exist, including the Ermita route. You will also find rural tourism establishments where you can rest after a day’s excursion.
Its inhabitants still practise crafts that keep alive the village’s artisan tradition: specialists in leather work, crochet work, palm and esparto grass pleitas …..
Finally, you can enjoy its gastronomy with its gachas de harina con miel de caldera (flour porridge with boiler honey) and its fiestas, the most important of which are those held in honour of the patron saints, the Virgen del Rosario and San Francisco (7 and 4 October).
